Carcerand
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001662
A host molecule that completely encapsulates a guest molecule within its cavity, forming a stable complex from which the guest cannot escape without breaking covalent bonds of the host. This permanent entrapment distinguishes carcerands from other host-guest complexes where guests can enter and exit. The guest molecule is held captive within the carcerand's molecular cage.
