Autoimmune bullous skin disease

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000971

A group of chronic inflammatory skin disorders characterized by the formation of blisters (bullae) on the skin and mucous membranes. These conditions arise from an autoimmune response where the body produces autoantibodies that target specific proteins involved in cell adhesion within the skin. The disruption of these adhesion proteins leads to the separation of skin layers and subsequent blister formation, as seen in pemphigus and pemphigoid.
