Pemphigus

A group of rare autoimmune diseases characterized by the formation of blisters and erosions on the skin and mucous membranes. The immune system mistakenly attacks proteins that form the desmosomes, which are cell adhesion structures in the epidermis. Diagnosis is typically confirmed by biopsy and immunofluorescence studies.
