Autoimmune thyroiditis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012907

An inflammatory condition of the thyroid gland caused by an autoimmune response, where the body's immune system attacks its own thyroid cells. This attack often leads to hypothyroidism, a state of underactive thyroid function. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is the most common form of autoimmune thyroiditis, characterized by the presence of anti-thyroid antibodies.
