Hashimoto thyroiditis

An autoimmune disorder characterized by chronic inflammation of the thyroid gland, leading to its gradual destruction and often resulting in hypothyroidism. The immune system mistakenly produces antibodies that attack thyroid cells, impairing their ability to produce hormones. This condition is a common cause of hypothyroidism in iodine-sufficient regions.
