Hartree energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005113
The atomic unit of energy, equal to the magnitude of the electrostatic potential energy of the electron in a ground-state hydrogen atom in the Bohr model, which is twice the binding energy of that atom. It equals the squared elementary charge divided by 4π times the vacuum permittivity times the Bohr radius, and serves as the energy unit in quantum chemistry calculations. One hartree is exactly twice the Rydberg constant times hc, about 27.211 eV.
