Fine structure constant
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013104
A dimensionless physical constant, denoted by the Greek letter alpha (α), that characterizes the strength of the electromagnetic force governing how electrically charged elementary particles interact. It is defined by the elementary charge, the speed of light in vacuum, the Planck constant, and the vacuum permittivity. The value of the fine structure constant is approximately 1/137.036.
