Finesse
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004431
A dimensionless quantity that characterizes the sharpness of the resonance peaks in an optical resonator, such as a Fabry-Pérot interferometer. It is defined as the ratio of the free spectral range to the full width at half maximum of a resonance peak. A higher finesse indicates a more selective resonator with narrower spectral linewidths.
