Hashing

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005115

A procedure that compresses input of any length into a shorter value of fixed length, for example turning the unprocessed descriptors of path fingerprints or circular fingerprints, or a structure identifier such as an InChI, into a compact bit vector or string. Because several inputs map to a single output, two different structures can occasionally collide on one hash, and the hashed form of an InChI is its InChIKey.
