Photooxidation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008909

An oxidation reaction initiated by the absorption of light. This process involves the transfer of electrons from a molecule to an oxidizing agent, often oxygen, following photoexcitation. It can lead to degradation of materials or the formation of new chemical species, such as in the atmospheric breakdown of pollutants.
