Disproportionation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003317
A chemical reaction in which a single substance acts as both an oxidizing and a reducing agent, resulting in products where the same element is present in at least two different oxidation states. This process is common for elements that can exist in multiple stable oxidation states. For example, hydrogen peroxide can disproportionate into water and oxygen.
