Disruption
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003318
A teratogenic effect involving the breakdown of a normally formed organ or tissue, leading to a structural anomaly. Unlike malformation, which arises from an intrinsically abnormal developmental process, disruption is caused by an extrinsic factor, such as a toxicant, infection, or vascular event, that interferes with development after it has begun. An example is an amputation of a fetal limb caused by an amniotic band.
