Malformation

A permanent structural abnormality present at birth that results from an intrinsic error in morphogenesis during embryonic or fetal development. These defects can affect any part of the body and range in severity from minor cosmetic issues to life-threatening conditions. Malformations are distinguished from deformations, which are caused by extrinsic mechanical forces, and disruptions, which result from the breakdown of previously normal tissue.
