Morphogenesis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007580

The biological process by which an organism develops its shape and structure, involving the coordinated organization of cells into tissues and organs. This complex sequence of events is driven by genetic programs and cellular interactions, including cell division, migration, differentiation, and apoptosis. In developmental toxicology, abnormal morphogenesis resulting from exposure to a toxicant during embryonic or fetal development can lead to structural birth defects.
