Fenton reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013096

A chemical reaction involving the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide by iron(II) ions, producing highly reactive hydroxyl radicals. This process is widely used in advanced oxidation processes for wastewater treatment due to the strong oxidizing power of the hydroxyl radical. The overall reaction is Fe2+ + H2O2 → Fe3+ + HO• + HO-.
