Primary radical

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009444

A highly reactive species, typically an atom or molecule with an unpaired electron, generated from the decomposition of an initiator molecule. This radical is responsible for initiating the polymerization process by reacting with a monomer unit. In free radical polymerization, common primary radicals include those derived from peroxides or azo compounds.
