Dark photochemistry

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002860

Chemical reactions that produce the same products as a specific photochemical reaction but occur without the absorption of light. These transformations are initiated by a chemical or enzymatic process that generates a molecule in an electronically excited state, which then reacts as it would following photoexcitation. Chemiluminescence is an example where the excited state product deactivates by emitting light.
