Photooxygenation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013400

A chemical reaction where molecular oxygen is incorporated into an organic substrate, with the process being initiated or accelerated by light. This often involves the formation of reactive oxygen species, such as singlet oxygen, which then react with the substrate. Photooxygenation reactions are relevant in both synthetic chemistry and biological systems, contributing to degradation processes.
