Aminoxyl radicals

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000494

Stable free radicals containing the N-O• functional group, where the unpaired electron is primarily localized on the oxygen atom. These radicals are often formed by the oxidation of hydroxylamines or by spin trapping reactions. Aminoxyl radicals, such as TEMPO, are widely used as spin labels in electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and as catalysts in organic synthesis.
