Infrared multiphoton dissociation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005836
A process where a molecule absorbs multiple infrared photons, leading to its dissociation. This occurs when a high-power infrared laser excites vibrational modes in the molecule, eventually depositing enough energy to break chemical bonds. It is often used in mass spectrometry for fragmentation and structural elucidation.
