Blackbody infrared radiative dissociation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001357
A technique used in mass spectrometry to fragment ions by heating them through absorption of infrared radiation emitted from a blackbody source. Ions are typically trapped in a cell and exposed to the radiation, leading to vibrational excitation and subsequent dissociation. This method is employed for structural elucidation of biomolecules.
