j-value
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006294
The photolysis rate constant for a chemical species in the atmosphere, representing the frequency at which a molecule absorbs a photon and undergoes a photochemical reaction. It depends on the absorption cross-section of the molecule and the actinic flux of solar radiation at a given wavelength. The j-value is expressed in units of reciprocal seconds (s⁻¹).
