Photon flux

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013398

The number of photons crossing a surface per unit time, with the SI unit of reciprocal seconds, or mol per second when photons are counted in moles. Dividing it by the receiving area gives the photon irradiance, in reciprocal square metres per second. Photon flux counts quanta, not energy, so it differs from radiant power, which equals the photon flux multiplied by the photon energy.
