Actinic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000162
Relating to radiation that is capable of initiating a photochemical or photophysical process in a substance. This property is wavelength-dependent, as only photons with sufficient energy to be absorbed by the material can induce a chemical change. For example, ultraviolet radiation is highly actinic for many organic molecules and for causing sunburn on human skin.
