Mutagen
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007706
A physical or chemical agent that causes a change in the genetic material, typically DNA, of an organism. These agents can induce mutations by altering nucleotide sequences, causing chromosomal aberrations, or affecting DNA repair mechanisms. Examples include certain chemicals, ultraviolet radiation, and ionizing radiation, which can lead to heritable changes in an organism's genotype.
