Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-018009

1. A substance that can induce an alteration in the structure of DNA.

2. An agent that causes a permanent genetic change in a cell other than that which occurs during normal genetic recombination.

3. An agent that causes a permanent genetic change in a cell other than that which occurs during normal growth.

4. Any substance e that can cause a change in genetic material.

5. An agent that causes a permanent genetic change in a cell. Does not include changes occurring during normal genetic recombination.

6. A substance that causes mutations (genetic damage).

7. A mutagen is a chemical or physical phenomenon, such as ionizing radiation, that promotes errors in DNA replication. Exposure to a mutagen can produce DNA mutations that cause or contribute to diseases such as cancer.
