Mutagenicity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007708
The capacity of a physical or chemical agent to induce changes in the genetic material of cells or organisms. This process involves alterations to DNA sequences, chromosome structure, or chromosome number. Mutagenicity is assessed through specific tests, such as the Ames test for gene mutations in bacteria or chromosomal aberration assays in mammalian cells.
