Spermatogonial chromosome aberration test
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011179
An in vivo genotoxicity assay in which rodents are dosed with a test substance and spermatogonia are later examined at metaphase for structural chromosome aberrations such as breaks and exchanges. It evaluates whether a chemical can damage the chromosomes of male germ cells, a route to heritable genetic effects. Results are given as the percentage of metaphase cells carrying aberrations, compared with concurrent controls, and the method is standardised as OECD Test Guideline 483.
