Nonionising radiation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008028
Electromagnetic radiation that does not possess sufficient energy to ionize atoms or molecules, meaning it cannot remove tightly bound electrons from an atom. This category includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light, and ultraviolet radiation below the ionizing threshold. Its effects on biological tissue are primarily thermal or photochemical, rather than direct DNA damage through ionization.
