Directly-ionizing radiation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003271

Radiation consisting of charged particles, such as electrons, protons, alpha particles, or heavy ions, that directly impart energy to matter through Coulombic interactions. These particles cause ionization and excitation of atoms and molecules along their path. This type of radiation includes beta particles and cosmic rays.
