Ionizing voltage
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006131
The electrical potential difference applied across an ionization source to impart sufficient energy to atoms or molecules, causing them to lose or gain electrons and form ions. This voltage must exceed the ionization energy of the species being ionized. In mass spectrometry, it is a key parameter for controlling the fragmentation patterns of molecules.
