Flux depression
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004541
The reduction in the neutron flux within a sample compared to the flux in the absence of the sample, caused by the absorption and scattering of neutrons by the sample material itself. This effect is particularly relevant in neutron activation analysis, where it can lead to an underestimation of elemental concentrations if not accounted for. The degree of flux depression depends on the neutron absorption cross-section and the size of the sample.
