Photochemical nitrogen extrusion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008820

A chemical reaction where a nitrogen molecule (N2) is eliminated from an organic compound upon absorption of light. This process often involves the photolysis of diazo compounds or azides, generating highly reactive intermediates such as carbenes or nitrenes. The extrusion of N2 is a driving force for these photochemical transformations.
