Nitrogen fixation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007963
The process by which atmospheric dinitrogen (N2) is converted into ammonia (NH3) or other nitrogenous compounds that can be assimilated by living organisms. This conversion can occur through biological processes carried out by microorganisms or through industrial processes like the Haber-Bosch method. Biological nitrogen fixation is catalyzed by the enzyme nitrogenase.
