Genetic drift
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004832
A change in the frequency of an existing gene variant, or allele, in a population due to random sampling of organisms. This effect is more pronounced in small populations, where chance events can have a greater impact on allele frequencies. It can lead to the loss or fixation of alleles over time.
