Evolution
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004138
The process of change in the inherited traits of a population of organisms across successive generations. These changes arise from mechanisms such as natural selection, genetic drift, mutation, and gene flow. In ecotoxicology, evolution explains how populations can develop resistance to chemical stressors, such as pesticides, over time.
