Genetic adaptation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004829

An evolutionary process whereby the genetic makeup of a population changes over generations, resulting in an increased frequency of individuals better suited to their environment. This process is driven by natural selection acting on heritable variation within the population. Unlike physiological acclimatization, genetic adaptation involves permanent, heritable changes in the gene pool and occurs over multiple generations rather than within an individual's lifetime.
