Relating to a pharmaceutical drug that is chemically identical to a brand-name drug but is marketed after the patent protection of the original drug has expired. These drugs contain the same active pharmaceutical ingredient, dosage form, strength, and route of administration. They are typically sold at a lower cost than their brand-name counterparts.
