neo-Darwinism
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007815
A modern synthesis of evolutionary theory that combines Charles Darwin's concept of natural selection with Gregor Mendel's principles of genetics. This framework explains evolution in terms of genetic mutations and recombination providing the variation upon which natural selection acts. It posits that the gradual accumulation of small genetic changes over time leads to the formation of new species.
