Selection
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010670
The process of isolating or favoring specific cells, organisms, or genetic traits from a heterogeneous population based on certain criteria. In biotechnology, this often involves using selective media or conditions that allow only desired cells to grow or survive. For example, antibiotic resistance genes are used as markers for selecting transformed cells.
