Linkage disequilibrium
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006648
The non-random association of alleles at different loci on a chromosome, meaning that certain combinations of alleles occur more or less frequently than expected by chance. This phenomenon can arise from factors such as genetic drift, natural selection, population admixture, or a recent mutation. Linkage disequilibrium is a key concept in genetic mapping and association studies, as it indicates that genes are physically close or have a shared evolutionary history.
