Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005103
A theoretical state in which allele and genotype frequencies in a population stay constant from one generation to the next, with genotype frequencies p squared, 2pq and q squared for a locus with two alleles. It holds only when mating is random and the population is large, with no mutation, migration or natural selection. It serves as a null model against which evolutionary change or non-random mating is detected.
