Genetic code
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004831
The set of rules by which information encoded in messenger RNA (mRNA) sequences is translated into proteins by living cells. It consists of a series of three-nucleotide sequences, called codons, each specifying a particular amino acid or a stop signal. This code is nearly universal across all forms of life, with minor variations.
