Termination

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011878

A chemical reaction or step in which a reactive intermediate of a chain reaction is destroyed, causing the kinetic chain to end. This process stops the propagation of the reaction by consuming the chain carriers without generating new ones. In radical polymerization, termination occurs when two growing polymer radicals combine (combination) or transfer a hydrogen atom (disproportionation).
