Chain termination

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001852

The irreversible process in chain polymerization where the growth of an active polymer chain is stopped, leading to the formation of an inactive polymer molecule. This can occur through mechanisms such as combination (coupling of two active chains) or disproportionation (transfer of an atom between two active chains). Termination reactions limit the molecular weight of the polymer.
