Terminator

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011879

A specific DNA sequence that signals the end of transcription for a gene or operon. This sequence causes RNA polymerase to detach from the DNA template, stopping the synthesis of messenger RNA. Termination can be rho-dependent, requiring a protein factor, or rho-independent, relying on specific RNA secondary structures.
