Drift
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003432
The slow, unidirectional change in the baseline or output signal of an analytical instrument over a period of time, unrelated to the presence of an analyte. This variation can be caused by factors such as temperature fluctuations, component aging, or changes in reagent concentration. Drift is quantified by observing the signal change over a specified time interval under constant conditions and is distinct from short-term, random fluctuations known as noise.
