Drift

The horizontal motion of an object, substance, or atmospheric feature caused by the prevailing wind or a water current. Examples include the downwind movement of a weather balloon, the transport of volcanic ash plumes, or the advection of sea ice. In instrumentation, drift also describes a slow, unwanted change in an instrument's reading over time when the measured variable is held constant.
