Beta drift
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003894
The movement of a tropical cyclone due to the variation of the Coriolis parameter with latitude, known as the beta effect. This effect induces a westward and poleward component to the storm's motion, even in the absence of an environmental steering flow. The magnitude of beta drift depends on the storm's intensity and size.
