Beta gyre
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003896
A large-scale atmospheric or oceanic circulation pattern induced by the beta effect, which is the variation of the Coriolis parameter with latitude. In the context of tropical cyclones, the storm's circulation interacts with the beta effect to generate a secondary gyre that influences the storm's movement. This gyre contributes to the poleward and westward drift of tropical cyclones.
